Swap Week:  Nick's Parents Swap Week Experiences
by RogerGirl

On Friday, Nick rode his skateboard home after finishing his last final for the semester.  He had a driver's license and his parents often let him borrow the car, but he preferred the freedom of his skateboard.  He came in the front door and grabbed a snack from the fridge.  He went to the living room to eat his snack and watch a new surfing DVD he had ordered when he heard his parents and sister pull into the driveway.  Although all four of them each used to have their own car, after losing the business and the house they had to sell two of the cars.  His dad drove one car to work while his mom and sister rode together as they both worked at the mall.  They came in and were happy to see Nick.  His sister went to her room to while his parents came and sat with him on the couch.

"Nick, could you pause the DVD for a moment," his dad said.

Nick paused the DVD wondering what was going on.

"You probably know this already," his mom said, "but next week is Swap Week."

"Oh yeah," Nick said casually.

"I know you're not into school activities," his mom said, "but this week is different.  You'll really learn a lot this week."

"I don't know," Nick said, "I think I might just skip it.  It doesn't really seem like much fun."

"I understand how you feel," his dad replied, "I thought it was kind of silly the first time I heard about it when I was a freshman.  After my first Swap Week though I found it to be quite an interesting experience and had a lot of fun."

Nick still seemed unconvinced.  Having spent so much time working in his parents store, he probably knew more about makeup and women's fashion that most straight guys his age and this was not something he was proud of.  From what he heard around campus he would probably be the only person not participating in Swap Week, but dressing as a girl was something he had no desire to take part in.  His parents looked at each other and his mom got up and went to the bedroom.  She came back a few moments later with a photo album.  She turned a few pages and handed the album to Nick after finding the page she was looking for.  Nick looked at the pictures on the page.  The first picture was a group of boys in lab coats posing next to a robot.  Another picture showed a girl's volleyball team posing for a team photo.  He knew his dad was never into science and his mom never played volleyball so he was confused by the photos.

"OK," Nick said puzzled, "what are these pictures?"

"Look closer," his dad said.

Nick looked closer at both of the photographs.  He looked at each of the boys in the science club photo.  He came to a short blonde haired boy holding a remote control for the robot.  He wasn't sure who he was, but he looked familiar.  All of his sudden he realized this boy was his mom.  He looked at the other photo and found a tall, pretty girl with dark hair.  He was shocked to realize that this girl was his dad.

"What the hell?" he said in a shocked expression.

"Watch your language son," his dad said laughing, "but yes that's us during our first Swap Week."

They turned to the next page and he looked at the next photos.  In one photo taken the next year his mom was dressed like a punk rock kid and in another his dad was a girl on the dance team.  On the next page his mom was a skateboarder and his dad was posing with a group of girls wearing a miniskirt and heels.  The final set of pictures showed his mom and dad as seniors posing with their dates for the Swap Week dance.  His mom was wearing a suit and had her arm around a girl in a pink dress, while his dad was wearing a black gown and holding hands with a boy in a tuxedo.  He was shocked at how handsome his mom grew and how pretty his dad grew over the course of the photos.  Having never known his parents to ever act or appear this way he was very surprised.

"Each year it becomes easier making the transformation," his mom said, "Cutting my long blonde hair was quite a shock my first year, but by the time the next school year started it grew back.  The experiences I had those weeks taught me a lot and I came to enjoy things I never thought I would.  I came to enjoy science more and my grades got better."

"Yes,"  his dad said cutting in, "before Swap Week I had no interests in team sports but playing on the girl's volleyball team that week I found out I was pretty athletic and joined the boy's basketball team the next year.  The heels and waxing really hurt, but overall they were some fun weeks."

Nick sat quietly thinking about what his parents had just told him.  His parents didn't seem any different from having participated in this.  His dad was very masculine and his mom was very feminine and they were both straight.

"Don't worry," his mom said, "your dad didn't become girly after Swap Week.  After the week is over everyone returns to their normal lives.  Although the hair might take a little while to grow back there aren't any permanent physical changes.  The only real change is your attitude towards others and maybe a new interest or two."

"OK,"  Nick finally said, "I guess I'll give it a try."

"Glad to hear it son," his dad said smiling, "you might not think so now, but I think you're really going to enjoy this week.  You're lucky you have an older sister who has agreed to let you borrow some of her clothes.  I had to buy all of my clothes for the week since I was a lot taller than your mom and my mom's clothes were a bit too big."

They all laughed and Nick began to relax.  During dinner they began to plan his transformation over the next two days.  While he was at the workshops the next day preparing to become a girl, his parents would put all of his stuff away for the week so that he could redecorate his room for his new female persona.  That night Nick thought about what it would be like to be a girl for a week.  He still wasn't too excited to have to dress as a girl and imagined himself looking very silly dressed up.
In this chapter, Nick learns of his parents', Brian and Joan's, participation in Swap Week when they were in high school as they recount their experiences as Brianna and John.
